Job Summary


This position will coordinate Marion Health’s (MH) Bariatric and GLP Program which includes facilitating the assessment, planning, organization, direction and evaluation of the Program and related activities in accordance with MH policies, philosophy, objectives and standards. In addition, the Bariatric Clinical Coordinator will help obtain and maintain the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and Quality Improvement Program.


Roles and Responsibilities:


  • Manage accreditation criteria to ensure clinic/facility/program meets expectations set forth by governing agencies.
  • Maintain and ensure compliance of all policies and procedures that guide the assigned services. These include but are not limited to Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC), federal and state regulations, and MBS-AQIP standards.
  • Collaborate with Medical Director, clinic staff, students, and other hospitals and community organizations, as requested.
  • Ensure a safe, well-equipped care environment for both, staff and patients.
  • Facilitate the patient flow for the GLP Clinic.
  • Interact with patient and family in the development of care plans.
  • Conduct daily patient visits to ensure quality and provides support as needed.
  • Coordinate and oversee patient care activities of Bariatric patients.
  • Conduct patient rounds and facilitate discharge planning as necessary.
  • Demonstrate effective problem identification and resolution.
  • Collaborate with physicians and members of the interdisciplinary team to develop policies and procedures and standards of care for the Bariatric patient.
  • Ensures Bariatric patient care standards and resource manuals are updated.
  • Intervene to ensure adequate coordination of care throughout the organization.
  • Provide Marion Health staff with in-services/seminars as needed.
  • Participate in general orientation of new employees.
  • Function as a clinical resource for Bariatric patient care.
  • Collect data to report appropriate information/statistics timely.
  • Monitor and update Clinical Pathway in conjunction with physicians/members of Interdisciplinary team.
  • Ensure timely ordering and completion of diagnostic testing.
  • Monitor various departments to ensure staff competency is achieved/maintained for staff caring for Bariatric patients.
  • Provide patient and staff education related to care of Bariatric patient.
  • Monitor equipment available to accommodate Bariatric patients in an economical manner.
  • Analyze and evaluate performance improvement data to promote positive patient outcomes and a safe work/care environment for staff/patients.
  • Facilitate weekly team meetings to optimize communication and patient care.
  • Follows up with patients after discharge.
  • All other duties as assigned.


Minimum Job Requirements


  • Current Indiana Registered Nurse License.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • BLS certification or must obtain at next available class upon hire.
  • Bariatric Nurse Certification within 2 years of eligibility.


Preferred Job Requirements


  • Medical/surgery experience.

  • General awareness and understanding of legal implication of patient care activities and self-performance while performing job duties.


Working Conditions


  • Typical clinical environment with frequent standing and walking.
  • Work may be subject to interruptions and occasional high stress levels.
  • Risk of occupational exposure to blood, body fluid and other potentially infectious, electrical and radiation hazards.

  • Ability to work any shift, occasional extended hours, holidays and/or weekends based on the needs of the practice.

  • Standing, walking, stooping, bending, lifting, pushing and pulling to provide patient care and to utilize patient care devices necessary to perform duties in a safe manner.
  • Use of computers and other standard office equipment.
  • Use of patient care tools and equipment for area of clinical specialty.
  • Pushing workstation on wheels to patient exam rooms.
  • Lifting supplies and equipment typically found in clinical patient care areas.
  • Operates equipment typically found in patient rooms.
  • Must assist patients with mobility.
